Gallagher Stadium in the running for Small Venue of the Year.

Maidstone United’s Gallagher Stadium is up against some international opposition on the shortlist for an industry award.

The £2.9 million home of the Ryman One South side was opened in July last year as the Stones finally moved back to the county town after a 24-year exile.

It is up against five other venues in the Small Venue of the Year category at The StadiumBusiness Awards 2013, which aims to recognise achievements from acorss the global stadium industry.

Also in the running are the Adler-Arena Skating Center (Sochi, Russia); New York Stadium (Rotherham); Netanya Municipal Stadium (Netanya, Israel); Allianz Park (London) and NV Arena (Austria).

Maidstone United co-owner Oliver Ash said: “The Gallagher Stadium has been a tremendous success for the football club, its supporters, the community and the local economy. It is an honour to be shortlisted for this prestigious award and a proud moment for all those who were part of making it happen.”

Founder of TheStadiumBusiness Summit Ian Nuttall said: “Every year we’re impressed by the incredible level of innovation and professionalism we witness during the nomination process and this year was no exception. Nominees should be very proud of their achievements and we congratulate them all in reaching the shortlist.”

The winners will be announced at a gala evening in Manchester on June 6.
